What is the knowledge base?

The Knowledge Base is the collection of your company’s information that Realm is connected to. It includes documents, messages, and data from your workplace tools.

How Realm uses knowledge

Realm continuously crawls and indexes data so it becomes searchable and usable by AI agents, answers, and workflows. This keeps the knowledge base up to date while preserving the original permissions from each system. When you run a query, Realm searches across the indexed data using a hybrid approach that combines keyword matching with semantic understanding. A ranking model selects the most relevant sources based on signals such as recency. AI models then synthesize the selected sources into a single answer or deliverable, with citations.

Realm mirrors the permissions

Realm is permission-aware and most connectors mirror the existing access controls from your connected applications. Users can only see the information they are already authorized to access in the source system, ensuring your data remains secure and compliant.
Each connector’s documentation specifies whether native permission mirroring is supported. See the Admin guide for details.
