Connect Jira to Realm to make issues, comments, and project data searchable. Navigate to Settings > Data sources and click Connect on Jira, or click Reconnect if already connected. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Realm app on your Jira site.

Connecting Jira

Install the Realm app from Atlassian Marketplace on the Jira site you want to connect. Then, navigate to Atlassian Admin > Apps > Sites > Your Site Name. Then click Connected Apps, find the Realm app, click the three dots, and click Configure. The configuration page shows a token and an Atlassian user ID. Copy the token into the Client Key field in Realm and the user ID into the User ID field. If you are not also a Realm admin, send the configuration page to a Realm admin so they can enter both values. The person connecting should have access to the Jira projects you want to sync.

Connecting with an API token

If you cannot install the Realm app, you can connect Jira Cloud with an Atlassian API token instead. Realm then syncs as the account that owns the token, so it sees only the projects and issues that account can see.
  1. Sign in to Atlassian as the account Realm should use, for example a dedicated technical user.
  2. Open API tokens and click Create API token. Atlassian API tokens expire, so note the expiry date and replace the token before it runs out.
  3. In Realm, open the Jira data source and select the API token (Cloud) tab.
  4. Enter the account email, the API token, and your Jira site URL (for example https://your-site.atlassian.net), then click Connect.
For Jira Server or Data Center, use the Personal Access Token tab instead.
Depending on your organization’s Atlassian settings, an admin may need to approve the app installation before it can be used.

Selecting projects

After connecting, choose which Jira projects to sync. You can add or remove projects at any time from the data source page.

Permissions

Realm enforces Jira’s native permission model. Users can only see issues they have access to in Jira. You can override this by switching to “Everyone in this organization” on the data source settings page, which makes all synced Jira data visible to all Realm users.

Jira Service Management

Realm’s Jira data source also syncs Jira Service Management data. Service Management projects appear in the project list alongside standard Jira projects.

Configuring properties

You can configure which Jira properties are synced from the data source page. This lets you control which issue fields are included alongside issue content.
